Twitter made me do it! Or how I almost saw Lady Gaga

I'm not a Tweeter. I tweet maybe twice a week (more recently thanks to this nifty blog) but I do check it daily - it's like the news...but faster. Everything from what's going on at the White House (what's up Barack) to celebrity gossip all for the great price of free.

I usually check it when I get home from work. Today though, I ended up doing some work late so my end of day was a little later than usual. Around 10:30, my friend Sunny texted that she'd be at a bar nearby and that I should come. Feeling lazy, I opted to stay in and get some rest. I showered and was in bed by 11:45 checking my personal e-mail and of course Twitter before reading and sleeping.

Imagine my surprise when around midnight a new tweet popped up from none other than Lady Gaga saying she was at Bukowski's, a bar 4 blocks away, complete with a picture:

A big Gaga fan, I leapt out of bed and began calling Sunny multiple times knowing she'd be up for the adventure, while simultaneously throwing on clothes. She wasn't answering. I gchatted my two co-workers who are major Gaga fans informing them of the situation and hoping they might motivate me to go (even alone if it came to that).

Dressed and ready,  I decided to hedge my bets and I ran to the bar to find Sunny. Luckily for me, she was there with friends playing darts. I informed them that we had to leave immediately. (I should probably also mention that the bar they were at was called People's Republik and is outfitted with Russian paraphernalia so a scene of someone coming in and telling them to leave might not be uncommon - especially with our recent Russian spy neighbors).

Back to the story: So Sunny, Ashley and co. were obviously confused - especially since I had never met 3 of the people she was with. I went on to tell them the story and that Gaga was at Bukowski's and we had to go. I've never seen a game face come on faster, Sunny and Ashley were ready and they bolted out the door. We raced back down the street, past my apartment and into Inman Sq, home of Bukowski's.

In attempt to play it cool, we decided to slow it down, stop running and stroll in pretending we were just there to hang out. The three guys we were with were trailing behind us, not as excited for a Gaga sighting. We got into the bar and there was no trace of her just a ton of hipsters buzzing about Mother Monster. So she HAD to have been there. Where was she???

The bouncer let the guys in a few minutes after us and they asked us if we saw her. No, we told them. She was gone. They told us they saw her. What?!?! It's then that we realized that we forgot to check the GIANT black SUV parked outside. She was in it. She drove off. We missed our chance.

I got out of bed on midnight on a Tuesday to see Lady Gaga and missed her. Of course I don't regret it but have learned to always check the black SUV.

haha this is amazing! You should have gone straight to Bukowskis, skipped PR and let your social networking do the work for you. You REALLY need to get a smartphone already!! Nice post Elisa!
